Does inner child healing work?
Yes, inner child healing does work. Doing griefwork to process emotions you carry from the past AND becoming conscious of your unconscious beliefs, helps you become emotionally mature and experience universal Love.
Before getting more into inner child healing, let’s go over a few things.
What is the Inner Child?
Your inner child, similar to your shadow, is part of your unconscious mind.
The inner child is the true, uncontaminated essence of who we are; that which is spirited, creative, authentic, and accepting.
Your wounded inner child is a part of yourself that’s stuck in a time where you didn’t fully process your emotions.
This wounding typically involves learning to disown a part of yourself and leaving it behind.
Family and culture make you embrace some parts of your Self, while completely abandoning others.
This happens when a child idealizes her parents and follows arbitrary rules for survival.
These rules implicitly embed the child with the unconscious idea that she is “bad”—which is a typical childhood experience.
When the child sees that some of her feelings and thoughts are unacceptable, she chooses to get rid of them.
(This creates the child’s “inner parent”, which encourages obedience at the cost of being whole.)
Then the rules and unconscious beliefs you learned as a child evolve and are carried into adulthood.
Does inner child healing work?
Yes, the process fundamentally comes down to the following:
Do the griefwork to digest any unprocessed emotions
You must take the time to do the inner work to feel through your past trauma.
Until then, your inner child is wounded and “frozen” in time.
This prevents you from being present in the moment and keeps you in arrested development.

Finding a support system that genuinely cares about your well-being
Here are signs that someone is not worth keeping in your social circle:
They don’t listen to you. This means they don’t value you enough to know what’s going on in your life or what you aspire for.
They judge you. People’s opinions are random. But staying around people who put you down based on their made-up standards is asking to be constantly drained emotionally and spiritually.
They try giving you unsolicited advice without hearing you out. This shows that they don’t find your issues to be important enough to sincerely listen to. Much less willing to listen to you vent.
They reject you and invalidate your feelings. Your feelings matter! Your feelings matter because YOU matter! Someone who denies your human experience lacks self-awareness and will inevitably drain your energies.
They betray your confidence. This means they go behind your back and speak poorly of you to others. They deceive you and don’t keep their promises to you. They don’t care about you.

Get in touch with your inner child, acknowledge, and self-inquire
The following is a list of ways you can build your relationships with your inner child and True Self:
Understand your personal triggers and projections. When you disown a part of yourself, you lack an inner point of reference for certain qualities and behaviors. This distorts your view of the world and people. By honoring who you truly are, you regain an accurate sense of reality and build self-love.
Affirmations are good to say aloud because you hear yourself embracing certain ideas about yourself. This helps keep you accountable for living up to your own word.
Share your experience with safe people. This isn’t easy unless you have been privileged enough to find yourself around well-intentioned, decent people. Otherwise, you will benefit most from attending therapy and self-therapy, such as—
Active Imagination is a meditation that gets your conscious mind in touch with your unconscious mind. This reveals your innermost thoughts and beliefs; that which guides your life.
Dream Analysis is a specific type of active imagination where you analyze the secrets your dreams are trying to reveal to yourself. Each dream reveals a message that your inner child is trying to surface to your awareness.
Journaling is the most popular method of getting in touch with your inner child and even your shadow.
